white polycarb macbook [may/june version] 2.13GHz Intel Core Duo, 160GB Hard Drive, 2GB 800MHz RAM
hi all,

was just browsing on the apple site and went to look at the white polycarbonate macbook [the 1 that got marjorly upgraded beginning of this yr] and it looks like they have upgraded it a lil bit more. not heaps, just two things but pretty good 2 things.

1. RAM
previously: 2GB 667MHz DDR2 SDRAM
now: 2GB 800MHz DDR2 SDRAM

2. Hard Drive
previously: 120GB 5400-rpm Serial ATA Drive
now: 160GB 5400-rpm Serial ATA Drive

and it's still rougly the same price [$1,600AU]

now the only real difference between the macbook white and aluminum is RAM and looks

although i must admit, the trackpad on the aluminum is freakin amazing

just thought i'd spread the word for all those having trouble with which 1 to choose...like me

although i think i'm gonna go with the white macbook
i've played with both of them and i don't really like the aluminum screen and as good as it looks...i don't think it's worth the money

Isn't that event more Software and apps than hardware?

I don't think 800Mhz RAM is that much of an upgrade. >_>"

to be honest, i'm a bit upset that apple did this. i bought the updated macbook white in february when it was first released. it was $999 at best buy. now i hear that they are selling a further upgraded version of my computer for the same price as i paid for lower specs a mere three months later. and to top it off, best buy is now selling their remaining stock of the pre-upgrade model for $899. i feel jipped.

yeah, I was in macauthority the other day and they said that the remaining stock of the old white macbooks were 899, so it's not just bestbuy - it's almost like it was apple mandated to get rid of the old as they issued the new. It's interesting that the new stuff is updating so fast; at this rate one has to wonder if apple will really be able to maintain the pricing, and if the used market won't start to tank due to the quick addition of new models and people desiring to upgrade.

Aluminium MacBook | iPod Touch
For now, there's almost no incentive to buy an Aluminum MacBook over the white one. LED backlit screen and the multi-touch trackpad are better gone for the extra 300$ gained. And the unibody? The protection offered by a poly-carbonate shell is more.

I wanted to buy the white MacBook, but got the Aluminum one just days before Nvidia 9400M upgrade to white MacBook. Sadly, my reason for buying the Aluminum one solely relied on the Graphics.

And now they kick in another update. This makes me think they are gonna change things with the UniBody and I'll remain with one firewire-less laptop that occupied no significant time in Apple's stables.

yer the white one is really still worth considering

although i must admit the unibody mac touchpad is amazingly awesome
but not worth the extra 300
the RAM doesn't make that much of a difference from wat i hear

white macbook all the way

I'll admit, I like the look and feel of the unibody macbook, screen, touchpad (gotta love that huge track area) and on some the backlit keys (top end macbook model), but the white one is much more cost effective.

The only negative about the white (aside from I'd prefer black or aluminum) is that it near about screams "MAC HERE" - which if anyone keeps up with sales on ebay would make a thief think "OOO I know who's laptop I'm gonna try to steal".

Yes, the old black and newer unibodies have a logo that stands out, but unless you're looking at the right angle, it doesn't scream as much as the white does IMHO.

Honestly, I think what they need to do:

white macbook 9400m
unibody macbook 9400m+9600 w/ 256 or 512 ded vid ram
macbook pro: either 9800gtx or ati 4870 w/ 1gig ded vid ram

Drop firewire 400 from the white, put it in the unibody.

keep the macbook on core2duo and move the pro to core i7

That would distinguish the capabilities enough, but allow for people who don't need a macbook pro to get a laptop that would offer more then what a 9400m offers. That would also more justify the pricing of the different models when right now it's kind of out there considering how similar some currently are.

I realize this digressed a little from main topic and I apologize, this is all IMHO :D

Yeah, I understand your frustration. Unfortunately this is the way it always will be in the computer business. There is always something new around the next corner... :/

The white Mac Books have one drawback. The case cracks. My daughter has one and has cracks that shouldn't have happened. Just my humble opinion.

Yeah those cracks are annoying..., my spouse has them too on her macbook. But they should be cowered by warranty, at least here in Norway I think. Have you checked with Apple if you can get the casing replaced?

Everyone I know hasn't got a cracked case on their white / black MB's but I guess it all comes down to exactly how you treat it and luck.
