Hi I have a MBP 15" and also a 20Inch Cinema Display. I would like to turn off my laptops display and use the cinema as the only and primary one on.

If I mirror the display the resolution does not hit max on the Cinema, but one time when I open and closed it the MBP screen was completely off but the cinema was the primary, and i was allowed to crank the res..

Anyone know how to de-activate MBP screen?

Close the MBP and wait for it to sleep. Then hit a key on your external keyboard or mouse and it should wake up again with only the external screen active.

But if you have the desk space, you can also have the menu bar etc. show up on your 20" display and just use the mb's as a supplemental display.

plug the LCD in before you boot, even before you turn the laptop on.

open the laptop, turn it on, and shut it right away.

this will work too

But I need to use the MBP keyboard haha so can't keep it shut.

Aptmunich - if i use the MBP as just s supplemental display it will just mirror, and then use same res as MBP on CINEMA correct? If not then yes I would rather do that.. But the objectective is to get Cinema is only/primary display with max. res. Thanks for replies guys!! I love this place more and more each day.

No, if you uncheck the 'mirror' displays box in the display preferences, each display will run at its native resolution without mirroring the other.

You can place the dock on your 20" display and use the 15" display for things like iTunes or other reference tools you might use.

doing it my way, you can use the keyboard once its booted, just open it back up when the external has a pic on it.
