I'm about to partake in the wonderful voyage that is "macbook" but one question before I do, is upgrading the mem from 1GB to 2GB worth it? It seems like a pretty decent upgrade, but does it improve things that much? Does the macbook run OK on 1 gig?

Ram

I'm always a big "upgrade RAM first" promoter. However, I just got a macbook a few weeks ago (love it, love it), & upgraded the RAM to 2 gigs within a week. I honestly didn't notice much difference, if any. But then again, I've only been using it for stuff like internet surfing, iTunes, iChat, a Scrabble game, etc. Granted, I often have them open simultaneously, but 1 gig handled all that fine. If you're going to get into video editing or work with big files in iphoto, etc., I would think going to 2 gig is a no-brainer.

Hope that helps.

be sure to upgrade on your own. it is a very simple procedure and you can get a great deal on RAM from NewEgg that is soooo much cheaper than what apple charges.

Apple even has how-to do it yourself directions on their website.

That is the RAM I ordered and it has been great.

I do alot of burning (cds/dvds), internet, neooffice, itunes. All ran fine with 1GB. The only reason I upgraded to 2GB was because I had a steal on apple ram.

Unless you're using final cut pro, you'll be fine with 1gb.

Upgrading doesnt in anyway void the warranty, right?

2.0 to 2.16 is sooo minor you wouldn't see a difference. Not at all worth the $$$ to upgrade IMO.
