I couldn't find any info on this searching, so i'm not sure if it's been brought up before. I read that the G4 Powerbooks are not upgradable. But Would it be possible to put an Intel Core 2 chip in an older MBP?

What about putting a 2.0Ghz CD in a machine that's stocked with the 1.83 CD?

I'm not 100% on this, but I believe that the processor is soldered onto the main board.

The minis aren't soldered but I think the books are. Anyway, if you put a C2D chip in it would work but the same speed processor from apple would be faster as the C2D have motherboards with longer piperlines.

Just save and buy new.

You're 100% correct.

Ahh...I had a feeling that was going to be the case. I'm pretty good with a soldering iron, but not that good. ;)

Thanks for the reply. Yeah, i'm just trying to weigh my options (Buying new just isn't one of them ;)) and get a handle on how upgradable the 'lesser' machines are. .

Besides RAM and HD, not much can be done to the lappies.

Not that the original Core Duo is much slower than the Core 2, whatever it might say on Apple's website. Even if you could go to the effort of opening a laptop and replacing the CPU, it would be a lot of money and effort for very little result.
