UHM...how is it cheaper to install 1gb memory yourself???

the 1gb memory sticks are about 150-200 dollars on bestbuy

on apple.com they chrge u about 175 to install it for u

so how is it that u are saving money exactly if u opt for the 1gb option and upgrade it yourself??

well, first of all, you'll need two 512Mb sticks for 1Gb of memory in a macbook, since they should be (might actually have to be) installed in matching pairs.

bestbuy may not be the best place to buy memory... check prices on cnet or newegg.

you also get to keep the other memory, whcih you can turn around and sell.

i think it tends to be a bit cheaper as you install 2Gb

Here's one for 89 bucks. Don't worry about the "5400". It's the same DDR2-667 200-pin 5300.

Do your research so you are comfortable with your purchase.
