Macbook pro battery life

I just put my brightness to the max on my macbook pro and from 100% charge, it only lasted me something like just over an Hr?.. Could there be a fault? a problem? should i contact apple?

Is this normal? With low brightness how many hrs of battery life can you guys get? and with the brightness full, how many hrs can you guys get?

What do you think is the average battery life hrs for the macbook pro?

i use a macbook pro 17"

*EDIT* what setting do you guys usually put? better battery life? normal? better performance? or custom (what custom setting would you normally go for?

I am using my macbook pro 17 inch right now.

I am on the internet actively participating in forums, aim conversations, and facebook. I am also listening to itunes, and folding. I have been on it for over a half an hour with out changing my settings at all, and I am at 80%, battery meter says 2 hours 26 minutes remaining.

no. I didn't do that. I don't intend on it either.

I actually noticed a change for the better after calibrating it, so it might be worthwhile.

it's at 96% and showing me i got 2.44 remaining..

Brightness is low, no backlight on keyboard and it's on better battery life.

Hope this is normal? or do you guys get 4hrs or 5hrs?

This is usually what I get:

Brightness - down to the first bar
Keyboard Brightness - off
Battery set to - "Better Battery Life"

I will usually have at least 2 safari windows open, itunes, ichat, and word/powerpoint open and I can easily get 3.5+ hours of battery life. Calibrating the battery helps a lot.

Have you checked to see if your battery is part of the recall? It's on apple's site somewhere www.apple.com/support
