recycling macbook mobo into media "pc"
Hi there, first time forum post so please excuse any mistakes

I have an old core2duo mac book pro 15" 2009(I think) mobo that I'm trying to put into a box I made for a media machine.
One big problem, I cant get it to boot to an external display. I'm switching it on using the jumpers on the mobo, nothing is attached to the main board except a CD drive, HDD, two fans, 4GB ram (2x2), the power adapter and what I believe to be a temperature sensor that comes off the main cooling copper bars. otherwise I have a mini display port to VGA adapter, one USB mouse and one USB keyboard. I power it on and the fans just go full tilt and no response from any keyboard or mouse input, no display on screen.... Any ideas on how I can bring life to my Frankenstein? Or perhaps a reason why its going silly?

Mistake #1. Don't post the same thing multiple times. I'm sure an Admin will come along and clean it up.

What OS are you planning to run on this, assuming you get it going? If macOS, the Admins may shut you down as that is not permitted by Apple.

Well, all the OP said was that it was the mobo, but no mention of the source of this mobo. So if all the OP has is the mobo, then the macOS may well not be legit. Apple doesn't sell the OS that way. So, if the goal is to run Windows or Linux, no problem. But if the mobo didn't come in the original system that the OP had, then there is no "legal" way for the OP to get the OS. And I think the Admins would now consider the mobo as part of a Hackintosh and that would get the discussion taken down.

On the other hand, if the OP is recycling a full on Mac by taking out the mobo and putting into a different enclosure, that MAY be acceptable to the admins. I don't know where the lines are drawn on this one. But if the goal is a Windows or Linux box, then all is copacetic. The mobo is just a component and the OP will need to get a copy of Windows or Linux. That is easier to do.

So, we get the answer and proceed from there, eh?

Yeah, not very clear as to what they do have Jake, and I'll bet they won't be posting much here and was no doubt a short lived visitation.

Yes. Ask your question in another forum where Frankensteins (Hackintoshes) are on topic. We do not allow disscussion of that in our forums. You might find an answer at www.macrumors.com.
