Try starting using System Preferences > Network > select Wi-Fi (make sure it's On) > Assist Me > Diagnostics…
    and note the results.

Also, Shutdown then restart your MBPro first.

MBP 15" Mid 2015, iPhone 8, an iMac, plus ATVs, AWatch, MacMini
Is the WiFi router named in the screen the one it is supposed to be connected to? And is that router attached to the Internet?

I also tried my wife’s MBP with Ethernet and no joy and hers won’t connect to the wifi at all.

It seems the 5th modem reset is the charm. Seems to be working. Thank you.

It seems that Apple relocated its access, at least for Sierra you can try their method from:
    macOS Sierra: Use Wireless Diagnostics
    https://support.apple.com/kb/ph25232?locale=en_CA

Note: Wireless Diagnostics doesn’t change your network settings.

    Quit all open apps.

Try to join the Wi-Fi network you’re having problems with (if you are not already connected).

Hold down the Option key, click the Wi-Fi status icon in the menu bar, then choose Open Wireless Diagnostics.

Enter your user name and password, click OK, then click Continue.

Follow the onscreen instructions to analyze your network connection.

For more information about using Wireless Diagnostics, see the Apple Support article Use Wireless Diagnostics to help you resolve Wi-Fi issues on your Mac

Have you actually set up th WiFi network on the MBP and wife's?
Hang on to those original install discs like grim death! Using OS X.7 or later make a bootable USB thumb drive before running Installer!

I'm thinking they got everything working with some modem resets as per post #8 Harry.

But a but odd that that would fix all connections that wasn't happening before. Strange eh???
