Random shut down with my macbook pro
    Hey guys,
I bought a macbook Pro retina late 2013, a couple months ago second hand. Its performs flawlessly but it shuts down randomly. It takes a while the first time i turn it on (about 20 minutes or so) and then after that, every time i turn it on it shuts down after a minute or two. I did a hardware test and everything passed. I did an SMC reset and it still does it.

BUT, I can load into safeboot just fine and it will NEVER shut off on its own. When i reinstall OS, which takes a while, it stays on the whole time and doesnt shut down.

I took it to a genius bar and of course while he used it, it never shut down. And he pushed the CPU buy running apps and opening a bunch of youtube videos at the same time. He ran a bunch of in depth hardware tests on all the hardware components and they all passed. The fans were running fine and keeping it cool. I got home and turned it on and it started shutting down right away on me!

I've reinstalled High Sierra 4 times and it still does it, so I'm certain its a hardware issue but i cant figure out what it is. Is it a failing logic board? He didnt think it was, but because it never shut down on him he didnt really have an answer for me.

Anywho, i thought i'd post here and see if anyone might have any suggestions or help. I've tried everything, and I can't figure out whats wrong, which leads me to believe its just a failing logic board and nothing else.

Thanks in advance if anyone can offer any help.

You took it to a Genius Bar and they couldn't get it to exhibit the problem. Do you always use it in the same location or are you having the problem in different locations? If always in the same location, could it be something like a very strong magnetic field from speakers etc or other electronics that is affecting it?

Do you get the, "You shut down because of a problem?" text window on starting up again? If so, you could copy the system report it offers to send to Apple. That may be useful for diagnosis, eg. kernal panic
I used to be conceited but now I'm perfect.

Hopefully the OP has resolved his problem by now. Notice that his post was back in November of 2017. Perhaps not that old a post, however, he has not returned since.

You mean, that's what happens when someone doesn't notice the date of the post they might have thought about replying to Rod.

As our home builder was in the habit of saying — S*hit Happens. And we all make mistrakes at some point or other.
