I am looking at upgrading my drive to SDD type for an early 2008 MBP. The MBP SATA interface is 1.5 gb/s, the Samsung SSD (EVO) drive is rated to 6.0 gb/s. Seeking confirmation of compatibility if anyone has this experience… I expect it is safe to assume the drive will be more than ready to respond when the MBP initiates transfers at 1/4 the frequency of the drive's capability.

Anyone?

G'day and welcome to the forums.

Most SATA III are backwards compatible with SATA but will work only at the slower 1.5gb/s speed. Some have been reported to need 'throttling' back using jumpers, but not all SSDs come with jumper pins. I have used five brands, Kingston, Toshiba, Vertex, G Skill Falcon and OWC and have found OWC, Mac specialists, to give best results and after sales service. Currently their 6gb/s is on special and comes with a three year warranty.

I had an early 2008 MacBook Pro and I installed a Crucial M500 SSD in it. Didn't mess with anything on the drive itself-- it worked perfectly right out of the box.

Thanks

Appreciate the feedback & input. For under $300 I've not much to lose. My fear was the near timing of 6.666e-10 vs 1.666e-10 seconds may be off just enough to require a second x-fer request cycle but having stood up, & sat back down, I realize the drive will still be waiting more than 2 cycles for the MBP to return with another request.

Thanks for the confidence builder :)
