I have a MacBook Pro with Mountain Lion. 3 days ago I got a notice for a software update. I ran the update and now I can't do anything at all on my computer without the spinning rainbow showing up and freezing everything. I posted in Apple Support Communities but haven't received any responses. I can't use my computer at all. Help!

Restore your MacBook Pro with your latest Time Machine backup. No backup? If no backup, reboot your machine and hold down the Command + R keys as soon as you hear the bong sound. Your MacBook Pro will boot to Recovery. Once in Recovery, select Utilities, Disk Utility. Verify your hard drive and repair if necessary. Also repair permissions. Let us know the outcome and we can go from there.
