Unable to boot up 17" MacBook Pro 2006 vintage
Originally I thought I had a faulty hard drive in this machine. I have removed the hard drive and have successfully booted up another Mac Book Pro in target mode with the hard drive in an external case. When I try to use the hard drive as a target on the problem computer, it boots to the point where I get what I believe is a "fatal kernel" message, then the computer tries to boot up again. This just continues to go on. Any thoughts on what I should do next?

Many times kernel panics are hardware related (especially in this case since you seem to have taken the HD out of the equation).

Many times kernel panics can be ram related...so the question is...did you install any new ram lately? If so...that could be the problem.

If not...then pull the ram...and reseat them. If you still have kernel panics...try installing just one stick of ram at a time (assuming you have two currently).

If after all this ram testing you still have kernel panics...then something serious may have gone bad with the logic board...and if this is the case...then it's computer shopping time.

Thread moved to better location. Not a "Switcher Hangout" topic.
