Using a Macbook Pro as a desktop

With an external keyboard and monitor and all peripherals going through a USB hub, is there a way to use the Macbook just as a CPU with the screen closed. it would sure clear some space on my desk.

Some do since the newer MBP's have the power user in mind.

Thanks. This Forum rocks. It's a tough grind from a PC to a Mac. but I'm getting there.
