Hey guys

I have been going crazy over the last few days trying to figure out whats going wrong with this Macbook.

Heres the story:

A friend of mine had a macbook but the battery and charger died and it had terrible ram and a pretty stuffed hard drive.

He came across a black Macbook 2006 that had a stuffed logic board everything else was perfect in it. So I said I could take the logic board from yours and replace it.

So I got it all done and started it up and it worked fine. There was 2gb of RAM inserted but the "About This Mac" only showed 1gb. So i turned it off and pulled the RAM out and inserted it back in turned the computer back on. Only the screen flashed grey and went black. Everything inside it seems be on and spinning however theres no start up chime.

The things I tried:
Reset SMC
Reset PRAM
Changed the Monitor (put other macs screen on and it did the same thing)
Took the entire computer apart and put back together (same thing)
Changed the HD
Tried different RAM

I need some help on this please please please!!!!

Anything you guys can help with would be awesome!!!!

No startup chime is usually an indication that the logic board has failed. Swapping an old logic board from one machine to another has its risks.

Thank you. **** I thought that may have been the case. Was hoping not for the fact that it started it in the first place.

It COULD be the ram slots are dirty. Ran into that on a 2007 Macbook. Have you tried the ram one slot at a time? Have you inserted and removed it a few times?

Mine was getting beeps indicating bad ram.

Thanks for the reply.

I just tried that with no luck at all. I am getting no beeps. The computer starts a grey screen flashes and the fans and Hd you can hear spinning.

Reason I suggested that is you said it was only showing 1/2 the ram but was working and when you changed RAM this issue started. The fact that is was not reading one stick of ram still makes me wonder if the slots are damaged.

That's a possibility but he's getting no POST chime at all. It really doesn't matter because if the slot is damaged, it means a new logic board anyway.

I know its strange but mine was at first not getting the chime either. Cleaned the slots and it's worked every since. You are probably right and the board is toast, but I am the kind of person who will try anything to save $$$! In my case it worked! :D

I put in other RAM and got the memory error beeps. I was quite worried as I paid decent $$$ for the Macbook!!!
