Since everyone was so helpful with my ancient MacPro questions I thought I should ask about my fiance's older MacBook which has also started to act up.

1. Her MacBook will randomly freeze and need to be reset by holding the power button, does not seem to be a pattern, there can be one program running or many.

2. Also when booting up, sometimes her airport will not work and it will just say "no airport card installed". This also will just happen in the middle of a session sometimes. Restarting will usually solve the problem but sometimes it takes several attempts.

Hardware Overview:

Model Name: MacBook
Model Identifier: MacBook5,1
Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo
Processor Speed: 2 GHz
Number Of Processors: 1
Total Number Of Cores: 2
L2 Cache: 3 MB
Memory: 2 GB
Bus Speed: 1.07 GHz
Boot ROM Version: MB51.007D.B03
SMC Version (system): 1.32f8

Any help or advice will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

More than likely you need to replace the airport card. You can try taking apart the machine and removing the airport card and cleaning the pins/slot with 99% alcohol and a toothbrush.
Also, when using it, check if the machine is freezing due to it overheating. install something like istat pro to check temperatures.
If it is freezing due to it overheating you will probably have to take it apart and clean it and reapply new thermal paste.

Avoid doing hard restarts as this will lead to a failing hard drive.

So we ended up taking it in to best buy and for $60.00 they were able to tell us that the hard drive is failing on it. So after she backs up everything she wants to keep on it were going to upgrade it.

500 GB hard drive - more than enough for what she needs
RAM - Probably upgrade it to 4 GB
OS mountain lion from Apple

~Can anyone tell me a good place on the internet to order RAM and possibly a hard drive the type of RAM we need for this computer.

Thanks.
