Using an old HD and running externally
    Hi folks,

The charging ports on my powerbook g4s no longer work. I am computer illiterate and want to know if I can remove a HD from a 12 inch powerbook g4 and run it externally (software and all) on my macbook pro. Will this work? If not, what do I need?

Also, does anyone know of batteries that can be charged externally for the powerbook g4?

    Thanks

Running those drives as external hard drives works well. I have one old drive in a permanent enclosure and a few others that I use in a temporary drive dock. Two things to keep in mind though:

    1. Make sure the enclosure/dock supports the type of drive you want to connect (SATA vs. IDE for example).
    2. Many Power PC Macs will run not boot from external hard drives unless they are in Firewire enclosures.

Slydude is right, you need a firewire enclosure to boot from an external
