    Macbook Pro won't start up
My mac won't start up (working fine yesterday). I hear the fans running when I turn it on but that's it and the screen stays black. Any idea what it might be? It's 10.5.8 (bought it in 2008 before the newer ones came out) if that matters. Also, if there is nothing that can be done, is it possible to get my data off it somehow? I haven't backed up recently and I really need that data. Thank you!

Depending on when you bought it your model might be one of these described in this article.

MacBook Pro: Distorted video or no video issues

If it is and it is under 4 years old and Apple can get the code that the video card has failed they will replace the logic board for free.

    Good Luck.

It was the video card and they did replace the logic board for free. So thank goodness for that!
