Mac Book acting slow w/spinning color wheel

I have a macbook 13'' and lately it is acting slow.. my HD is not even close to being full and i have 6gb of memory.. however, when i open firefox or any applications it freezes and i get the spinning color wheel...can anyone help plzzzz... any advice or techniques would be greatly appreciated..thnx in advance

Same happened here for several months, and then HD died. I had 8GB RAM. I think you should check your HD to make sure it is OK.

Shut down the Mac every couple days~
I got 8gb for my mac pro. The longer you use the Mac without restart, the less memory you got for running.
