A friend of mine's macbook is getting a clicking noise and the "?" folder, that mine got when my HD failed. He is wanting to sell the macbook, so i was wanting to check it out before i bought it. Could i remove the HD from my working macbook and put it in his, without harming the HD?

My macbook = MacBook "Core 2 Duo" 2.1 13" (White-08) Specs (Early 2008, MB402LL/A*, MacBook4,1, A1181, 2242) @ EveryMac.com

I'm pretty sure those are both SATA 2.5 inch drives and should be interchangeable. However, I would recommend going to Ifixit.com and looking at their specific instructions on HD replacement.

i know they take the same physical drive, i was asking if i put my drive in his computer, would it effect my HD (like deleting files, corrupt or something of that nature.)

Unless you botch something during the swap there should be no damage. It would probably be easier though just to boot his from his OS disk or put your HD in an external drive case and boot from that if all you want to do is check it out first.
