Hey folks, i bought my mac about 4 months ago from a local man, its about four years old and everything was going great until my screen started to go black, the mac would still be on though, i didnt have to be doing anything in particular for that to happen and the only way i could get it to stop was to reboot, i took it too a genuis bar today and they ran some tests, they told me that either i have a graphics card fault or a screen fault and would require further tests to determine which one and the cost to repait this would be £350 which ifind rather escessive, i then headed home and now i have a problem that my mac wont even power up :-( with or without the charger, i dont even get the pulsing glowing on the front, i have never had to get a mac repaired before so is it worth going local? I live in Edinburgh and there are a few businesses offering there services, anyone got any experience in not going to apple for repair?

Thanks for any advice given.

Gordie.

I'm not in the UK but I can tell you that spending a great deal of money repairing a MBP that's 4 years old simply isn't worth it. In my opinion, you would be better off saving that money and perhaps use it to buy a refurbished model MBP from the Apple store on line. Refurbished models offer a substantial savings and are fully warranted by Apple.
