Question Are these upgrades compatible with my Macbook?
    Hey everyone :-)

My white Macbook (late 2007) is beginning to run really slowly and as I've begun doing a bit of photo editing it's just not fast enough anymore.

It currently has the standard 2x512mb RAM and a 80Gb 5400 rpm harddrive. I'd like to upgrade to 4GB memory and a 7200 rpm hdd and afterwards do a clean install of Lion (instead my current 10.5 Leopard).

Will these two fit my Macbook?

    Kingston ValueRAM 4 GB (2 x 2 GB) DDR II SDRAM Memory Kit ( KVR667D2S5K2/4G ) - RAM Memory - Kingston Memory

    ST9250410AS Momentus 7200.4 SATA 3Gb/s 250-GB Hard Drive | Seagate

Thanks a lot for helping :-)

Ps. Would I be able to use a SSD with my type of Macbook?

    Specs:
    Currently 13" Late 2010 MBA, 4GB/128GB; Early 2011 13" MBP, dual core i7 2.7ghz, 4gb ram, 500gb hd
Both look fine to me. I'd advise against an SSD drive for this computer, only because the cost of an SSD drive would quickly exceed the value of the computer.

Thanks for the swift reply! I think I'll put in an order as quickly as possible then.

    Cheers :-)

So I bought new RAM and harddrive. The memory installed fine, but the harddrive doesn't show, when I boot up with the Snow Leopard cd.

It's this harddrive. Shouldn't it be compatible?

Thanks for your help - it's not much fun having a new hard drive if you can't make it work :-)

Did you partition the drive in disk utility?

    No. I guess I should have? :-)

Edit: I've just checked up on the formatting procedure. Is it correct, that I can only format my new drive, if I plug it in using usb?

Edit #2: Found this thread, which answers my question. I'll try that and report back. Thanks, John :-)
