I have a macbook pro 7.1 that I bought in Feb of 2011. It has 4GB of Ram in it right now. Can I upgrade it to 8GB?

Thanks.

That's a mid 2010 13" MacBook Pro. You can install 2 x 4 GB modules for a total of 8 GB. So the answer is yes.

Either buy the memory from Crucial or OWC. Both are reliable.

One last thing, then I will quit bothering you. :)

I just noticed that newegg.com has a section just for mac memory. Is a ddr3 ram chip just for macs? Or do they work for PC's too?

Some PC notebooks use the same memory modules that Macs use. So yes, a DDR3 module can work in both. But it's always best to buy from a supplier that specializes in Macs. That's why I suggested OWC along with Crucial. However, NewEgg and Amazon both sell memory for Macs.
