I know there's a thread somewhere here about this but i'd like to clarify something i read here Mac OS X 10.4 Help: Calibrating a MacBook or MacBook Pro battery

I have a question between item no.5 and no.6

5. Turn off the computer or allow it to sleep for five hours or longer.

6. Reconnect the power adapter and leave it connected until the battery is fully charged. You may use your computer during this time.

So my question is:
A.) Should I let the computer off for five hours or more before reconnecting the power adapter and charge?

or

B.) Should I let the computer off for fiver hours or more while the power adapter is connected and charging?

I'm trying to calibrate my batteries right now. My mbp is 3 weeks old and istat pro (widget) says my charge cycle is 22 and battery health is 98%.

Sorry for my confusion but i hope you guys could clarify this for me thanks...

Well, since #5 says the computer should be off and asleep for five hours, and #6 says you can use the computer during the time the power adapter is reconnected, I'd say that you'd have to wait the five hours first before starting step #6 since you can't leave it off while using it.

There is no "between" 5 & 6. If there were, # 6 would be # 7 and something else would be # 6.

Reconnect power 5 hours (or more) after you have shut it down or it has gone to sleep.
This deep sleep time allows the battery to fully drain. Or as much as you want it to and still keep it's sleep state.
I've left mine as long as 8, maybe 9 hours, and still be able to wake it from sleep vs it shut down from total discharge of the battery.

I only do this 5 hour spread while I am also sleeping.

Because the OP was talking about OS X 10.4, I thought we might be talking about an older battery and an old battery practice.

So, just to be clear, this type of battery calibrating should be done on the newest of the MBP batteries as well?

Thanks!
