I have the M-Audio AV-30s - great little speakers for desktop use. Fairly boxy sized, though, so if that's a concern, you might try something else.

ahh thats more my cup of tea.

well for film and music anything with a decent subwoofer will sound better than your macbook by far. i use Altec lansing speakers that i picked up for about 50 quid. if youve got a bit more money lying around you could go for some bose speakers, they usually sell some form of Bose in Apple stores.

however for monitoring, i use some Fostex PM0.4's as they got a really nice top end, bit of a shame that the low isnt as up to scratch. however they are relatively small for monitors. but they arent as powerful as their bigger brothers.

if you wanna go all out on some really good speakers for production/monitoring, i would reccomend KRK Rokits, as they sound just right, but they are quite huge and cost £250 a speaker.
