i just recently got a used macbook (1st gen) core duo 13.3", and when i close/open the lid it doesnt go to sleep or wake up(i have to manually put it to sleep and push a key to wake it up) last night i took off the screen bezel and noticed that the magnet is missing, does anyone know where i could get one, or would i be able to just use any old magnet that fits in there?

You can't use just any magnet. Go to iFixit: The free repair manual and have your model number on hand. I'm not sure if they stock those magnets or not.

Yes. It's designed to fit. Try the folks at Powerbook Medic. They may have them for sale. If they don't, try eBay. Or do some extensive Googling.
