I have a new ibook g4 14 inch and there's a buzzing sound that comes on and off after a process is finished or after the hard drive was read. It comes from the upper left hand side of the computer. I haven't had a mac before so if this is normal please let me know. The sound isn't very loud and I've tried various things to make it stop like uninstalling new ram, removing the airport card and it's still there. Also I've recently read here that it isn't normal to always have the fan going on the ibook (even if it's been off the whole night). So there's another potential problem I guess. Please if anybody knows something about this let me know because I have no clue.
Thank you!

Hmmm.. is it the left speaker buzzing? How high is your volume set?

Are you in a warm environment? If so it might be normal for the iBook's fan to be on constantly... mine sometimes is during the summer as the apartment gets quite warm.

I live in san diego, so it's not that warm... good point though. The buzzing isn't coming from a little below that I think. I mute the speakers and it still happens.

It's not just the reaaaaally quiet noise of the harddrive whirring is it? But that would be much much quieter than the fan mind you... barely even noticeable unless you stick your head close.

If it's not that, I'd give Apple a call...

Do you live near any bee hives?

That doesn't sound too normal to me... My iBook is completely silent 99% of the time. You might try downloading an app to check your CPU heat..
