ok so i have a old macbook from late 2006 to early 2007. i had droped the computer on my floor hence ruining the screen. it would have cost too much to fix the screen, so i bout a mini dvi to vga and the a vga-vga cord. i had not charged or used the broken macbook in almost a year and a half and it took it a while to boot up. anyway when i plugged the macbook into my hdtv it seemed to work. it showed my background and would allow me to right click and even make a new folder. however i could not see my front row, my desktop items or the bar on top of the screen. all of a sudden everything i had done with the mouse happened at once. all my hot corners options happened within seconds, then it asked me what resolution i wanted. well i chose one hoping it would allow me to see all of my desktop however, now my hdtv turns off when i boot my broken computer up and when my tv does stay on it says mode not soupported.

Please help!!

My advice... you would be better off replacing that broken display yourself rather than fool around trying to figure out what resolution to use - when you can't even see what you're doing.

If you have access to another Mac with a FW connector, you can try target mode booting the broken display machine and reset the resolution from System Preferences. But to be honest, a MacBook from 2006 may not be worth the effort.
