I recently received a iBook G4 from a friend so I can learn the Mac OS. For being 5 yrs old it's runs quite well. Except the text is fussy in my browsers.

How can I sharpen text in Safari or Firefox? How can I sharpen text in any program within Mac OS X 10.5.8?

You're probably just not used to the different font smoothing OS X uses. You can tweak the settings a bit under System Preferences > Appearance, but that's about it.

But you'll soon get used to it.

Those iBooks all had low-resolution 1024 x 768 displays. On the 14" models, this makes for some large, blocky text. And the iBook did not support higher resolutions even on external displays.

Thanks for the information. I'll live with it.

One day I'll buy a new MacBook :)
