which OSX did my powerbook leave the factory with

I am looking at resetting my powerbook G4 17" but i dont think it came with 10.5.8 which is on it now i want to get a new HDD and fresh install but dont know which os to look for
can any advise where i may find the information i need

The 17" G4 would ship with Mac OS X v10.3 Panther.

You don't have to start with the original OS if you like 10.5.8 Leopard. If you have the retail version of Leopard then you can do a fresh reinstall with it. It doesn't sounds like you don't have the original OS Panther discs so it's probably going to be difficult finding a copy. Also if you have gotten used to using Leopard then you should know that Panther is going to run a little different if you have never used it before. If you are reinstalling the OS to sell it then it doesn't matter as much.

thanks guys will look for a retail version 10.5.8 as want to fresh install and sell for a MBP poss 15" but price is quite steep so will look into it
