Hi guys,

I just bought a used macbook pro off a friend, actually I bought it a few months ago and let him use it until he graduated. It had mac osx on it when I bought it. But the idiot formatted it and put xp on it so he could play some stupid web based game.

Anyway.

I have 4 Mac Osx disks, 1 being an official copy. When I put the real copy in the drive it boots to the disk but says it cant install on this machine.

The other disks just lead to a black screen with a blinking cursor, I've tried holding c while booting as well as holding the option key while booting. These disks work on other PC's.

What am I doing wrong?

Is the Official copy of OSX a Retail DVD or a DVD that came with another Mac? If the later it will not work unless it's installed on a machine the same model and specs as the machine it shipped with.

Are your other OSX DVD's copies? If so, that is probably why they are not even booting.

Correct on both counts.

The disk belongs to imac, which I have from my old mac. The copies are burned images.

Is there no way to get them to install?

Right now I have the hard drive partitioned with windows 7 x64 on one of the partitions, nothing on the other, is there anyway to install mac using an additional piece of software?

Will not install as the discs are strictly for that model iMac exclusively. Go and purchase Leopard OS X.5 or Snow Leopard OS X.6, making sure you get the full ,retail install DVD, not the silver grey model specific discs such as you have now.
