I recently sold my mbp online. If I wipe everything clean and mail the computer, I wouldn't be able to replace the software because I dont have ANY system discs. I could try to erase the data on the hard-drive and just send it without a complete system restore, but Im wondering if that is unsafe, because the next person could recover personal data. Please tell me the best option for this situation.

You should never sell, nor should a buyer ever buy, a computer without the restore disks. Suggest you get some from Apple before you ship and use them to restore prior to shipping.

I would call Apple and get a replacement set of the original disks. Have had several reporting pricing at around $20 for a set.
