Hi everyone! I wanted to ask users who are more familiar with Macs than myself about something I was considering. My old laptop just died, and unfortunately I don't have too much money. I was interested in buying one of the older PPC iBooks to use, until income tax return time and probably would purchase something again at that time. I'm a pretty light user by most accounts, mostly internet surfing, email, and my hobby is writing. I also love to listen to music on the computer, and usually keep a good amount of tunes on the computer. I used to run Ubuntu, and mostly just used the default software, although I definitely miss Tomboy (the note taking application). I was also considering netbooks, but even used netbooks with actual HD's instead of the SSD's start to add to the price pretty quickly.

Anyways! I was looking at used iBooks, mostly ranging from the 800Mhz to 1.2Ghz. However, from 800Mhz to 12000Mhz the price jumps a somewhere around $100, even for the used models. Now, I plan to probably leave what OS is on there on there, so if it's 10.3 or 10.4, I'm totally cool with that, as I've never kept up with the latest OS's (let's face it, the last Windows I've ever used was XP). So what I was mostly wondering is if the older PPC iBooks would be sufficient for daily use for typical user things such as web browsing, writing documents, listening to music, etc. I don't plan on doing any kind of editing or DVD Authoring, so I thought it would be okay, but wanted to check first! Thanks!

Also, what is the power difference between a G3 and a G4? For example, I've seen a "G3 900Mhz" and a "G4 800Mhz". Which one would be better? Thanks!

Quoted Price

Hi, thanks for the link! I did some quotes, and sure enough the ones I were looking at were higher. But then... is there a place or site that you can get them somewhere close to the quoted prices on the site you linked?

An older iBook will be fine for the things you want to do...except going to You-Tube.
