If the drive does not show up under Disk Utility, let us know.

ok. so the os is installing smoothly as we speak thanks to you guys.

one more question, though not nearly as important as the last. right now i have 10.4.x going on my computer. before my HDD issue i had 10.5.x on there. on a separate external HDD i had all my media and time machine backups. obviously i'll be able to get to the media, but what about the time machine backups? is there a way to restore to my 10.5 version from there? or will i have to buy another copy of 10.5? i had it before, but i think i lent it to someone, and i now live on the other end of the country and will probably not see it again. thanks again.

Rule one Dex. Never lend wifey or computer discs to anyone! Money you might see again. Let Time Machine specialist answer your question as I use SuperDuper.

For SD to do what you ask, first would have to install OS X.5 on the internasl hard drive and do back up from the external.

that's what i figured would happen in time machine also. i don't know where i will find 10.5 either. i was looking around on apple's website and all i see is 10.6 which i can't get.

Maybe it's too late to mention this, but you could have used Superduper to backup your old drive to you new drive. Superduper will make the backup bootable. Then you could swap disks and you would have all your data, programs OS levels the same without worry about the 10.5 disks.

good to know. too late now though. thank you. when i do eventually find a copy of 10.5, i will backup with superduper so if this happens again, there will be no problem. thank you.

btw, i updated iTunes, then added all my music back in on my new HDD. then i excitedly sync'd my iphone 3GS as it hasn't been backed up since 3.1 came out.

here's what happened. it said it was syncing, but i'm not seeing my contacts back in address book. I also saw all my newest music isn't on my phone. i went to sync the music, and it says my iphone is sync'd up to a different itunes library, which makes sense. it wants me to set it up as a new iPhone. will i lose all my stuff if i do this? like my texts and contacts and settings and all that?
