Fellow Mac Enthusiasts,

I am in the market for my first ever macbook. I am torn between purchasing:

Refurbished MacBook 2.0GHz Intel Core 2 Duo - White - 849$

or

Refurbished MacBook 2.0GHz Intel Core 2 Duo - Aluminum - 1099$

I am pretty sure the only difference is the aluminum body, display, 40gb, and the smug that comes from owning the newest Macbook.

I plan on purchasing an external hard drive.

What do ya think? Is the Macbook Aluminum worth an extra $250

Aluminum all the way. I've had both (still have a white MacBook for work) and the aluminum feels a lot more sturdy and professional. Plus the glass trackpad is so much more responsive and the gestures actually make using the trackpad a lot quicker than a real mouse is some cases.

Plus the resale value will be a lot higher as well...

These are for my uses, YMMV

PROS
Love the trackpad, absolutely love the backlit keyboard.
Love the size and weight

CONS
Initially I was pleased with the speed, less so now. Not bad mind you.
I still hate having the ports on the left side
Hate having only two USB Ports
Made a MAJOR mistake thinking I could live without Firewire
The screen is good, but not that good.

I have Parallels and Win XPPRO installed. Works well. Some minor annoyances, nothing major.

Overall, I would have been Far better off getting an HP I saw for less than $800. I was surprised, but it had a tremendous screen, good specs, and FW.
I would then get a 24" iMac for home use. I never knew how comfortable my old iMac was until I got this.

Overall, I'd get a cheaper Macbook if I had to. I've had some screen yellow problems, occasionally lose the Bluetooth, and it does run hot.

After searching for a Mini DV camcorder that can transfer via USB, my mood soured a lot.

But my mistake for getting lust over it.

I went for the refurbished 2.0GHZ aluminum also... best purchase I've ever made. It's like a MacBook Pro, but the right size for portability. (And no dedicated graphics, but for WoW it's more than suitable).

Sexy little machine. I've got my fiancee wanting one. I told her that she can have mine in a year and a half if she can wait for me to get a pro. If not, she might just get it on her own. :)

Plus your machine will only get faster with time, and how often can you say that? Soon Snow Leopard will be released, bringing out the best performance from the hardware (multicore use-age, true 64 bit, etc), and in a few years when SSDs are cheap, throw one of those in... all of a sudden, your laptop is much faster. Good stuff. :)

I bought my aluminum MacBook back in early February with my federal income tax refund and I simply love the computer! Well worth the money I paid for it!
