I recently put in a new HD in my MacBook (bought from a friend, who doesn't have the recover disks). The CD drive isn't working..it seems like something is in there, but I've tried EVERYTHING to get it out, including all of the startup keyboard shortcuts and the like...
So I've been using a Sony external DVD drive with a Leopard disk from another friend who has a MacBook..and I was able to get to the Installer page (I'm doing a fresh install). I believe a I did the Formatting (or erase) correctly...
I may have done something wrong. For the firmware update, it suggested that I could put in a password to protect it from someone else trying to update the drive (is that right?)...Anyway, I did that and now, all I'm getting is the gray/white screen everytime. If I press the option key at startup, the lock icon comes on, I put in the password, and it sounds like something is spinning in the drive, but I'm certain nothing is in there.
Every keyboard shortcut during start up that I use, leads to nothing but a blank screen.
Do I need to get another HD and start over?
