apple memory vs OWC.

apple wants $150 for a 1gig chip for my new imac.

OWC wants $25.

why the difference? will the OWC ram work fine? I surely am not paying apple that much money for RAM, they are crazy.

Lots of people use the OWC RAM. It will work great. It also has a lifetime replacement warranty. That's the main thing I would look for.

Sometimes they send the more expensive brand name TechWorks RAM. I would assume it's because they run out of the house brand RAM.

Either way, I wouldn't be worried about buying from OWC. They are a good company to buy from. They know Apple stuff.

Apple is crazy for charging so much for RAM. I don't know how they don't feel guilty about it.

Yeah I use OWC ram and it works quite well for me. What I have heard though is that the Apple ram works even better, better than anything else out there... since I haven't compared... i can't say for sure on that, but that's the word on the street

Apple markup memory a lot because they can get away with it and they can make a big profit on it.

Buy the OWC. Leave the Apple memory to those who don't know about this stuff. Bear in mind Apple memory isn't 'Apple' memory - it's just the brand they have in stock at the moment. Could be Samsung, could be Kingston.
