yeah. ill explain a bit and post a link. lay down the imac screen down on a soft towel or something. there are screws on the bottom in the vent. they loosne but dont come out. there should be three of them. loosen them all up and the back should come off bottom first.

this should show at least how to open it up.

Mind you, the architecture described in that manual is way out-dated. It describes the G5 iMac without the iSight, things have changed places ever since.

I dont believe taking the case off an imac will void the warranty. When they upgrade ram in the apple store they have to take the case off.

that is the apple store though. They are liable as long as repairs are done in the store.

no it won't. if you screw anything up they won't cover it, but apple doesn't completely void your warranty just for taking the back off.

Then maybe you will believe one of the main people on Apple Support.

Take it apart and change anything except the RAM, no more even Applecare.

Sorry, but if people think they can go against apple's rules, then don't expect help when you need it down the line.

Yes, modifying the internals will clearly void the warranty, but the original statement was that simply opening the case would immediately void the warranty, which is obviously not true.

True, but if you mess up, Apple is not liable. And, as people said in that apple thread, it took a CERTIFIED EXPERIENCED TECHNICIAN about an hour to replace a hard drive. A HARD DRIVE! Just to give you an idea on how difficult the task is... It's honestly more trouble than it's worth, but if you REALLY want to, wait until your iMac's warranty is done (whether it be one or three years).
