    2014 iMac Sata Cable
Has anybody used the combo Sata Cable (p/n:apple 923-0312 for the 2012/13) to replace the listed P/n 923-00092 for a 14/15. iFixit and powerbookmedic are both out of stock. Everybody else wants twice as much plus crazy shipping. Rinbers sell the former and claims it will work on the '14. I was seeing if anybody actually has personal experience with using this part. My thinking is its not a connector or voltage issue, just maybe a length difference.

    Thanks.

    Welcome to our forums.

Our advice is to always use the designated part and stay away from substitutes. Opening up a glued together iMac once is tedious enough without having to do it several times to test whether a substitute SATA cable works. You might want to try eBay for the part if other suppliers are too expensive.

And.. most importantly, make sure it is the SATA cable that needs replacing and not the drive itself.

Thanks for the advice on using the proper part, that was my thinking as well unless someone told me it works just fine. I bought a used iMac with a broke screen for cheap, so it needed to be taken off anyway. When I opened it, it did not have a HDD, upon closer inspection, I realized it didn't have the cable either, thus SDD only iMac. I had an extra HDD left over from another project so I figured I put it in there once I found the cable.
