Because Safari maintains Comic Sans in my Gmail posts, doesn't that ID Firefox as the culprit?

In Firefox Preferences, I changed the typeface to Comic Sans at 18 point.

In Firefox Applications, I changed mailto from Use Mail to Use Gmail.

Yet, when I post to myself in Comic Sans, it changes to a sans serif typeface that's not Lucida Grande, San Francisco or Helvetica. It might be Franklin Gothic, but I haven't examined it closely enough to find out. Plus, it really doesn't matter what Comic Sans changes to. What matters is that Firefox (apparently) is making the change.

I'm hesitant about switching from Firefox to Chrome because I use Gmail, and I don't want all my eggs in one basket. I just don't like Safari, so using it is not a broad solution.

I understand your concern. I would suggest trying Opera, but it too uses the Chrome engine for its browser. Firefox has undergone several changes in a short time. One of those changes was from 32 bit to 64 bit. I'm not sure that made any difference but it was a necessary change since the next version of macOS will require all apps to be 64 bit. For now, I suggest try to live with Firefox and hope they publish another update in the near future. You might wish to send an email to the Mozilla folks and inform them about the anomaly. It's an open source project but generally the Mozilla folks are fairly responsive.

Have you tried changing font & size in Google Mail (web gmail) using the gear-pulldown menu? I think your issue is that you are only changing font in Firefox (local display), and that isn't being sent to gmail.

Yes, many times. That's the first thing I did. It had no effect. I had done that with my previous iMac several times, and it worked. With the new iMac and the latest Firefox, making type spec changes in Gmail settings has no effect. I posted those details in the forum already.

Problem solved by ditching Firefox and switching to Chrome.

Importing scores of bookmarks was easy.
