    Imac gift
    Hi,

My Mother in law gave me her iMac, (A1224, OSX 10.9.4) that was not working.
"If you fix it you can have it"
I have fixed it with a new graphics card.

I now wish to give it to my daughter to use. However it is always coming up with an error with the iCloud login that obviously still belongs to my mother in law, who has since bought another Mac and changed her password on the same account. We have tried all the passwords that she can remember using but I still cannot get past my machine saying 'there is a problem wit the icloud account.

All I want to do is remove my mother in law's account (Without affecting her data in her iCloud account), set up a new apple id and iCloud account for my daughter and move on. I have worked extensively with PCs and this would normally be resolved by wiping the hard drive, re-installing the OS and moving on. However from what I have read so far everything on a Mac seems to be intrinsically linked to the apple id and the iCloud account, so I would appreciate some solid advice on how to move on without upsetting my mother in law by removing an account and putting her data at risk.

I'm a Mac newbie so please be detailed in responses, as I won't be offended ;-)

    Regards,

    Specs:
    Late 2013 27" iMac, iPad 3, iPhone 6s+, iPhone 7+, 3 iPods, Sierra
Ask your Mother in Law if she still has the original purchase receipt when she bought the iMac. Also, since the iCloud account is hers and even though she changed the password, the old iMac should still be listed. All she has to do is sign into her account and remove the iMac. The account is actually her Apple ID and as long as she hasn't changed that regardless of what password she's using, she can add or remove items from it.

If all else fails, see my first phrase above about the original purchase receipt. Showing that to Apple will allow them to remove the iMac for her. But that should not be necessary as long as she is using the same Apple ID.

    Hello chscag,

Thanks for the advice. I'll go through this with her and see if we can remove the iMac. It's quite an old iMac so whether there is the receipt is still in her filing system is something we shall have to look into. We'll see how we get on. I presume when she logs on with her apple i.d. then the navigation to remove the Mac is quite straight forward?
We'll have a go and let you know how we get on. I shall be guiding her from the other end of a telephone line so it may be the case of the 'blind leading the blind'.
Can you point me to any tutorials on this?

    Cheers,
