Hi All - I purchased a new SATA hard disk drive. I just installed it on my 24 inch iMac and started the computer up. It goes straight to installation but when I get to the screen asking where I want to install Leopard, there is no option. I take this as it is not reading the hard disk for some reason. I then made sure all connections were secure on the new hard drive and that I plugged all things back in correctly. Still not working.

Is there something I may be missing here beside accepting that I may have purchased an incorrect/bad hard drive?

This is the drive I purchased:

Amazon.com: Western Digital Caviar Blue 500 GB SATA III 7200 RPM 16 MB Cache Bulk/OEM Desktop Hard Drive - WD5000AAKX: Electronics

Thanks for any help!

When you get to the installation screen, the top menu should appear. Under Utilities select Disk Utility and use that to format the drive to Mac OS Extended (Journaled).

Once formatted you can quit Disk Utility and proceed to install the OS

Please do not cross post. If you feel that your post was in the wrong forum, ask a Staff member to move it for you rather than posting it twice. Also, you had a previous thread you created with the same title which added to the confusion.

Your cross post was removed.
