Hi,

I am thinking of buying a Mac Mini, and was looking at paying extra for 8gb RAM instead of the 4gb for £160 extra. On Amazon, I also found extra RAM to install on a Mac mini here

Ram memory upgrades 8GB kit DDR3 PC3 10600 1333Mhz for: Amazon.co.uk: Electronics

and was wondering firstly
-would it void my Apple warranty? (I found this but was confused exactly if it would or not
Apple Warranty: Installing Memory, Expansion Cards, User Installable Parts Does Not Void Warranty)

and
-is there any difference in the quality of RAM as there seems to be a large price difference?

Thanks in advance and sorry for such a long post,

Apple memory is overpriced. There is no difference between the memory they supply and that which is purchased from a reputable dealer. Buying memory from Amazon or Crucial is fine. And no, your warranty will not be voided provided you don't mess things up when installing the memory. As it is an easy task to do, there should be no problem.

That RAM is fine. It's the same as what I have used in my mini, and it's working great.

And don't worry, apple don't mind you upgrading the RAM. Thats why the mini has the easy to remove base. (in the mini, theres even a little picture showing you how to upgrade the ram!). ;D

I just replaced my new Mini's RAM without any problems. It was extremely easy and I'm not one who frequently tears into a computer. This was my first foray and it went pretty well. Getting it out was a breeze and the only thing hard about putting it back in is that you have to pay attention to the angle when replacing the boards. Don't get too flat. The bottom one almost seated itself. The top one didn't get seated on my first try, but I just took it out and tried again. No big deal and now I have 8 Ram
