I have an old Intel iMac where the Dimm0 slot just doesn't want to work. When I put a 1gb card into that slot I'll get a flashing white light that says it doesn't like it. I've tried multiple cards too. I've tried putting the one that works in Slot 1 into Slot 0 and it won't work there. Basically I've given up on the slot.

Will a 2gb card work in the one slot? The spec says 2gb max, so I doubt it would go higher, and its the last of the 32 bit machines, but does it care where the memory is located? I don't have a 2gb card on hand to try otherwise I'd just try it.

Since I just replaced the hard drive and have all the tools at hand, maybe I'll try the other 1gb cards that I have. I have 3 from Lenovo laptop pulls that were the same, plus the other one that came with the one that I use. 1gb is passe.

I tried using the other slot again with a 1gb card, and it just doesn't work. I get quick flashing white panic light on boot up. Both 1gb cards I tried work fine in the other slot.

So anybody have an answer on my original question about using a 2gb card?

I believe you have a early 2006 iMac correct? Intel Core Duo? If so, I can't say for sure if it would work or not. But my best educated guess would be that it wouldn't, OWC only lists a 2GB upgrade kit consisting of 2x1GB sticks, Crucial is the same way.
