    Question 27-inch iMac font size/resolution
Hi. OK, so the iMac refresh is just about upon us and I'm ready to buy.

However, just wondering if anyone has found that the default resolution of the 27-inch display is too high, and font sizes difficult to use on a day-by-day basis.

I like to idea of extra space, but don't see the point in having to reduce the resolution if the fonts are too small having paid so much for the screen size.

    Any thoughts welcome.

    Cheers.

    27" iMac i7 (2011) 10.10, iPhone6, iPad Air 2, AppleTV2
Never had an issue with the font size. The 27" screen running at it's native resolution is a joy to use.

Takes some getting used to having all that screen estate but the font size and readability has never been an issue for me personally.

Cool. Thanks. I did use one for about a day just before Christmas (a refurb unit I had to send back) and didn't notice any problems, but I'm a cautious kinda guy when it comes to spending lots of money!

    The store is down!

I know what you mean. Even on a 27" display, a resolution of 2560-by-1440 can make text sort of small with the default font sizes. But luckily (without changing the monitors resolution) you can adjust the default font size to something larger, and you can increase the size of text of Safari as well.

Since LCD displays have a single native resolution where they look best (if you change to other resolutions to make text larger, text & images will look a little "fuzzy").

The best idea (if you can)...is visit an Apple Store & "play" with one. Then you will know for sure if you will or ill not have any issues. Of course you have your previous experience as well using an iMac (not sure if that was a 27" one).

I find that the 1920 x 1080 resolution works best for my 53 year old eyes.

Maybe so, but it's not the native resolution of your 27" iMac. I'm betting that you have some screen distortion or fuzzy (out of focus) images.

Try getting a pair of glasses that have their focal length set for computer viewing. That's what I did and it works great even for very high resolutions such as the iMac or Apple Cinema display are set at.

It's a little less sharp with the 1920 x 1080 setting but I don't notice it too much. Personally, I would rather sacrifice the sharpness a little for comfort.
