I am pretty sure that in the next two weeks I am going to be purchasing an Imac and I have a couple questions before I pull the trigger.

So my macbooks speakers suck, are the imacs speakers better?

and is there a huge difference between the i3 and core duo processors?

I think you would be better served to purchase some after market speakers or head phones. This applies to any PC or Mac you buy.

As far as, i3 vs Core Duo checkout MacWorld.com for there benchmarks. From what I recall only a slight advantage on the newer i3 cpu.

Your Mac's Specs
2011 MacBook Air, i5 27" IMac, 2010 21.5" IMac, 2010 Mini, 2011 13" MBP, IPhone 4, Airport Extreme
The I3 will be noticably faster.
The speakers on the imacs are ok, but like was mentioned by someone else, you will want to buy some external speakers for music.

The iMac's speakers are hands down better than the MacBook's speakers. I just switched from an iMac to a MacBook Pro and was very disappointed in the speakers in the MBP.

I really like the imacs speakers they are much better then all of the iBooks, Macbooks, and macbook pros that i have used. I really like the i3 is it noticably faster then the intel core 2 duo that is in my mbp.

The iMac line is due for a refresh real soon. Possibly in May, so it will be to your advantage to wait awhile before purchasing.

Just traded my 2009 Macbook for a 2008 20.5 iMac. Right off the bat the speakers were so much louder and the screen was so much clearer. I have a 2011 MBP and your right Stretch, speakers are the worst out of the three Macs I've owned/traded over the last day. But craigslist worked for me, have the setup I wanted now. Good luck.

I have 3 iMacs - new 21.5 with I3 / 2 yr. old iMac 24" and a 12 month old iMac 27 - as well as a 2 yr. old Mac Book Pro.
In my old Windows pc days-you obviously ALWAYS needed external speakers to play music and sounds etc
But - in the New and Wondrous World of Macs - you don't!
I use all of them for playing my vast Music libraries - and find them very good-the 24 is prob. the poorest, and the 27 better at handling bass etc while the newest 21.5 is prob. the Best for Music reproduction..
The Mac Book Pro is adequate considering it emanates from a small case !
Yes-the I3 on my new ImAC 21.5-IS FASSSST !
Am thinking of getting the similar new version of the iMac 27:)
