how to connect imac to macbook pro?

and by connect i mean accessing files from my macbook pro on my imac and vice versa? i'm always at school so i have my macbook with me doing work. when i get home it's always a hassel transfering these files through a usb flash drive. is there a way to do this without buying a app? thanks.

Both machines are on your home network right?
Just share the folder the documents are in that you need to move.
Then you can move them from Finder.
System Preferences - Sharing - File sharing
