Solid state drives for older macs?
I got an iMac (circa 2007), up-spec'ed to the best possibilities of the time (2.33 C2D, 4G RAM), but it's not fast enough for me anymore.

Just wondering if I can upgrade the HD to one of the newer SSD offerings? I know it's not conventional, but HD's all seem to be pretty modular and standardized in size... is it possible?

Sure. You just need 2.5 to 3.5 bracket adapter like this one. Be prepared for a bit of a job though, iMacs can be tough to get into.
Liquid and computers don't mix. It might seem simple, but we see an incredible amount of people post here about spills. Keep drinks and other liquids away from your expensive electronics!

Would this be true of a 2008 Macbook also (2.4 C2D, 4G RAM)?

    Sorry... just thinking out aloud

No, the Notebooks already use 2.5" drives.

OK, so I just bought a 2008 top spec Macbook and I can get the latest Intel SSD with an employee discount (through friend).

A 2.5" SSD will slot straight in? Do I need a specific connector or are they all the same?

You're good, it's a SATA interface. Hope you don't get your friend caught by talking too much :-P
