Is it possible to swap an iMac 400MHz mother board for say a 500 or 700Mhz motherboard without making any other modifications? (power supply?).

Thanks.

Research suggests not [source Mactracker and EveryMac], but there's no definite 'no' to be found. There were three G3 400 models, M5521 Mac 2,1, then M5521 Mac 2,2, and then M5521 Mac 4,1. The processor changed from G3 750 to 750cx.

Logic Board Upgrade [Archive] - The macosxhints Forums may answer your question. Note the suggestion that "maybe it'll work", ie. you can but try putting in a different (faster) logic board. Good luck!

Thanks! I'm probably gonna try and swap a 400Mhz for a 600Mhz in a couple weeks.
