Just picked up a 1.8 SP G5 (PCI-X) with a hinky logic board. Got a great deal on it, and figured I could pick up a new board with little to no problem. Well.....

My question is, can I swap out the existing logic board (model no. A1047), with a 1.8 DP (PCI-X) or 1.8 SP (PCI), or any other logic board and not have to worry about the power supply or other incidentals my newby brain might be forgetting to mention?

TIA for any replies.

According to Mac Tracker, the power usage for the single 1.8 (First revision, 2003) is 430 watts, and 552 watts for the Late 2004 1.8 single. The dual 1.8 offered in 2003 uses 604 watts.

If you take a look on ebay, you'll find a variety of power supplies with different wattages. So, given I've never tried this, I would hazard a guess that you'll need a power supply that can cope with the 604 watts. Personally I don't think it's worth the money since the logic board and power supply will set you back about as much as it would cost to buy a 2nd hand Core Duo or Core 2 Duo imac (first generation), which will be much faster.

Hope that helps.
