MacNN (via Electronista) announced that ATI was releasing a new, cheap graphics card and implied that it would work on the Mac Pro. I have a 2nd generation Mac Pro and would love to use this card as a replacement to my existing card.

Does anyone know if it will work. I can't get a straight answer from ATI. For $60 (from Amazon), I'm willing to try it and just return it if it doesn't work, but I don't want to break my computer.

If anyone has the brains to help me out, it probably would benefit many readers here.
Thanks, David

From the best I can tell this is not a Mac compatible video card. If you go to ATI web page...the system requirements for this card mention nothing about Macintosh compatibility:

ATI Radeon? HD 5450 System Requirements

And if you go to ATI's "download graphics drivers" page...there is no listing for an ATI Radeon 5450 driver for a Macintosh:

Graphics Drivers & Software

You just won't find a brand new (newly released) video card for a Mac Pro for $60 dollars...if you did, then the Windows version would be $20 bucks!

- Nick

p.s. Believe me...at $60 bucks I would love to get one if this was true.

I find fault for Apple on this point. I'm very disappointed. I can't believe that there is any justification for the huge mark up in price and the very, very limited options for upgrading our graphics cards. From what I can tell, I have one or two options that cost $350 or more to do.
